Strategic comms first, photographer always
I started as an illustrator and designer, later working with brands and businesses before spending seven years photographing some of the UK's most visible events.
Since 2017 I've supported the Directorate of Defence Communications at the UK Ministry of Defence — producing official photography, videography and digital content for Defence Ministers, senior military leaders and government stakeholders. That means roughly fifty ministerial engagements a year, more than a hundred publication-ready assets annually, and a consistent two-to-four-hour turnaround that keeps same-day publication possible.
The assignments have been extraordinary: the Coronation of King Charles III, the State Funeral of HRH The Prince Philip, national Poppy Day campaigns, defence conferences, and international exercises from Sicily to Australia. Just as importantly, I learned how to be invisible when it matters, discreet when it counts, and ready for anything when the plan changes — which it always does.
An MBA in strategic communications and a designer's background mean every frame I take is chosen to advance a message, not just to decorate a page. That is the difference between a photograph and a piece of communication — and it is what your brand gets, whatever the size of the brief.
Approach
Four principles carried out of government comms and into every commercial brief.
Fast without the rush
Speed is a discipline, not a scramble. The ability to deliver selected projects within 2–4 hours, developed during my time in government communications, is available when deadlines demand it.
Discreet by default
Ministerial diaries, corporate strategy, private events — I work in environments where confidentiality is the baseline, and I bring that standard to every client.
Strategically curious
I read the brief behind the brief. What is the message, who is the audience, and how will this imagery be used? That is where the value is created.
Publication-ready, every time
Colour-managed, correctly cropped, correctly named and delivered in the formats your channels actually need.
A career built in the public eye
From illustration and design to the highest-profile events in the country — the route that shaped how I shoot.
